Learning for Life, Not Just a Job
The world of work is changing:
Skills get outdated faster: Today's blacksmith wouldn't have much luck fixing robots!
We're working longer: Now a 60-year career means continuous learning is key.
The solution: Lifelong learning focused on "enabling skills."
These are the foundational skills like communication and problem-solving that apply to any job.
They're in high demand, way more than specific industry knowledge.
Mastering enabling skills lets you constantly adapt and learn new, valuable job skills.
We're leading the way!
Since 2019, the LearningCITY Collective has been researching and testing new learning models to help Calgarians thrive in this changing landscape.

Community Learning Study
This 18-month study explores the opportunities for expanding different forms of community-embedded learning in Calgary. Three research questions guide this study:
What are the aspirations of learners, educators, and community partners?
How can the system deliver on these aspirations?
How can we operationalize the optimal model?

AccelerateU
The transition from student to professional can be challenging. AccelerateU is a two-year pilot project led by Mount Royal University that tests the impact of embedding postsecondary learning in a professional environment with real-time access to practitioners. This pilot included the delivery of 40 business classes to 1,300 learners over two years. The final project report will be released in the fall of 2024.
